Affiliate Disclosure
RemoteTaxTrap.com is operated by JaxanPublishing, LLC, a South Carolina limited liability company.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a normal-looking URL that contains a tracking code identifying RemoteTaxTrap.com as the referring site. When you click an affiliate link and complete a qualifying action — usually signing up, registering, or making a purchase on the destination site — the merchant pays us a small commission. You pay nothing extra; the commission comes out of the merchant's marketing budget.
How we identify affiliate links on this site
We disclose affiliate relationships in two ways:
- Inline disclosure: Whenever an affiliate link appears in a recommendation (for example, our "Talk to a multi-state tax pro" button), we display a disclosure notice immediately above or beside the link.
- Full disclosure: This page, linked from the footer of every page, contains the comprehensive disclosure.
This dual approach follows the Federal Trade Commission's 2023 Endorsement Guides, which require disclosure to be "clear and conspicuous" and placed "close to the endorsement" — not buried at the bottom of a long page.
Who we currently have affiliate relationships with
As of the date above, RemoteTaxTrap.com has applied to or is a partner with the following affiliate programs. This list is updated as relationships change.
- [List each affiliate partner here once approved — e.g., "1-800Accountant (via ShareASale)", "TaxAct (via CJ Affiliate)", "FreeTaxUSA (via Impact)"]
- [Add or remove partners as relationships start or end]
We also participate in [optional: tax software comparison aggregators / lead generation networks]. Where a recommendation includes multiple options, we attempt to present them in order of usefulness to you, not commission rate.
How affiliate relationships do — and do not — affect what we recommend
We acknowledge that affiliate relationships create a structural incentive to recommend partners. We mitigate this by:
- Recommending services in their relevant context, not as universal advice
- Noting honest limitations and trade-offs of recommended services
- Linking to non-affiliate alternatives where appropriate
- Not accepting paid placements that override editorial judgment
What our affiliate links do NOT do
Affiliate links on RemoteTaxTrap.com:
- Do not change the price you pay for the recommended service
- Do not share your personal information with us (we don't see who clicked or signed up)
- Do not give us special access to your account or data at the merchant
- Do not commit you to a purchase — clicking a link is just a click
If you'd rather not participate
You're under no obligation to use affiliate links. The calculator on our homepage is fully functional without ever clicking an outbound link. If you find a service we recommend valuable, you can also search for it directly rather than clicking through. We'd love the commission, but we won't lose sleep over the click.
Updates to this disclosure
This page is updated when affiliate relationships change. The "Effective" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent update.
