Short version: The calculator runs entirely in your browser. We don't see your salary. We don't use tracking cookies. We don't sell or share data because we don't have any data to sell.

What we don't collect

RemoteTaxTrap.com is a static website hosted on Netlify. The tax calculator on our homepage runs entirely as JavaScript inside your web browser. The numbers you type into the calculator — your salary, filing status, state of residence, employer location — are never transmitted to us, to Netlify, or to any third party. They exist only on your device, in your browser tab, and disappear when you close that tab.

We do not use Google Analytics or any other tool that captures user input. We do not use tracking cookies. We do not run user session recordings. We do not have an email subscription form on this site (as of the date above).

What our hosting provider may log

Like virtually every website, our hosting provider (Netlify) maintains standard server logs for security and operational purposes. These logs typically include:

Your IP address (used by Netlify, not stored or accessible to us in any identifiable way)
The page you visited
The time of your visit
Your browser type and operating system
The referring page (if any)

These logs are managed by Netlify under their privacy policy. We do not have direct access to your IP address or browsing behavior.

Affiliate links and third-party tracking

When you click an affiliate link on this site (clearly marked near our "Find a Tax Professional" recommendations), you are taken to a third-party website. Those third parties may set their own cookies and track your activity on their site to attribute any resulting sale back to us for commission purposes. We do not control or have access to those tracking systems.

If you do not want to participate in affiliate tracking, simply do not click affiliate links. The calculator works fully without any clicks on outbound links.

Children's privacy

RemoteTaxTrap.com is intended for adults dealing with their own employment tax situations. We do not knowingly direct content at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone of any age (we don't collect information at all).

California, EU, and other jurisdictions

Because we don't collect or process personal information, the rights granted to California residents (under CCPA/CPRA), Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah residents, and EU residents (under GDPR) — including the right to access, delete, or opt out of the sale of personal information — are functionally moot here. There's nothing to access, delete, or opt out of. If this changes in the future (for example, if we add an email newsletter), we will update this policy and provide clear opt-in/opt-out mechanisms.

Changes to this policy

If we change our data practices — for example, by adding analytics or an email signup form — we will update this page with a new "Effective" date and, where appropriate, notify visitors prominently.
